Since 2019, Egypt has taken serious steps to promote the comprehensive adoption of artificial intelligence. These efforts began with the establishment of the National AI Council, followed by the launch of the first edition of the National AI Strategy.

Below is a summary of the key milestones: 

  • 2019 – Establishment of Egypt’s National Artificial Intelligence Council: The Cabinet approved the creation of the National Artificial Intelligence Council to develop and implement Egypt’s National AI Strategy. 
  • 2020 – Establishment of the Applied Innovation Center: Created to develop innovative solutions with tangible developmental impact. 
  • 2021 – Launch of the First National AI Strategy: The President of the Republic launched the National AI Strategy following Cabinet approval. The strategy represents a strategic approach to harnessing AI capabilities in support of development goals. 
  • 2023 – Launch of the Egyptian Charter for Responsible AI: Aligned with the principles of the Organisation for Economic Co-operation and Development (OECD). In the Global AI Index, which ranks countries based on their international AI capabilities, Egypt ranked 52nd in 2023.  
  • 2025 – Second Edition of the National AI Strategy (2025–2030): Aims to deepen the economic and social impact of AI, expand its applications, support innovation ecosystems and startups, and strengthen governance and regulatory frameworks—consolidating Egypt’s position as a regional AI hub in the Middle East and Africa.
