Financial services firm SoFi<\/a>,\u00a0said on Tuesday it has bought Composer, an AI startup that helps retail investors build and execute sophisticated \u200btrading strategies that have long been the preserve of Wall Street \u200cfirms.<\/p>\r\n\r\n\r\n\r\n

While commission-free trading has made it easier for individual investors to buy and sell stocks, access to sophisticated systematic investing tools has remained largely concentrated among hedge funds and institutional \u200bfirms even in recent years.<\/p>\r\n\r\n\r\n\r\n

SoFi is betting that AI<\/a> can help close \u200bthat gap by allowing mom-and-pop investors to build and test complex \u2060trading strategies with little to no coding or specialized AI prompting expertise.<\/p>\r\n\r\n\r\n\r\n

“If you can \u200bexplain an investment idea in plain English, you can now build, test, and \u200bautomate it,” CEO Anthony Noto<\/strong> told Reuters.<\/p>\r\n\r\n\r\n\r\n

“AI is already a foundational part of investing, and much like how mobile became a foundational part of banking, it will completely transform the \u200bindustry.”<\/p>\r\n\r\n\r\n\r\n

SoFi said that following its acquisition of Composer, customers will also be able \u200bto access thousands of community-created strategies and automate execution from a single platform. It did \u200cnot \u2060disclose the terms of the deal.<\/p>\r\n\r\n\r\n\r\n

The San Francisco-based fintech in April\u00a0reported\u00a0a 35% jump in members to a record 14.7 million in the first quarter. Its adjusted revenue surged 41% to a record $1.1 billion over the same period.<\/p>\r\n\r\n\r\n\r\n

Competition to provide services \u200bto retail investors has intensified following \u200bthe pandemic-era trading \u2060boom that brought millions of new customers into financial markets.<\/p>\r\n\r\n\r\n\r\n

With commission-free trading now ubiquitous and product offerings increasingly similar, \u200bbrokerages are locked in a fierce battle to stand out \u200bin \u2060a crowded market.<\/p>\r\n\r\n\r\n\r\n

Last month, brokerage Robinhood,\u00a0said\u00a0it would allow customers to create dedicated trading accounts and deploy AI agents to trade stocks on their behalf through its \u2060platform.<\/p>\r\n\r\n\r\n\r\n

Referring to \u200bhow its customers are responding to recent \u200bstock market turbulence, Noto said that “Members are staying engaged through volatility and looking for opportunities rather than \u200bretreating from the market.”<\/p>\r\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"
