{"id":22551,"date":"2025-07-23T08:07:01","date_gmt":"2025-07-23T02:37:01","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/thecatalystonline.in\/thecatalyst\/upi-goes-global-with-paypals-new-payments-network\/"},"modified":"2026-08-19T18:32:21","modified_gmt":"2026-08-19T13:02:21","slug":"upi-goes-global-with-paypals-new-payments-network","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/thecatalystonline.in\/thecatalyst\/upi-goes-global-with-paypals-new-payments-network\/","title":{"rendered":"UPI goes global with PayPal\u2019s new payments network"},"content":{"rendered":"\r\n<p>Payments firm <a title=\"\" href=\"https:\/\/www.paypal.com\/in\/home\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">PayPal<\/a> has partnered with the operator of India\u2019s popular unified payments interface and others to launch a global platform through which consumers can make cross-border <a title=\"STC Bank partners with PLDT Global to secure digital payments\" href=\"https:\/\/thecatalystonline.in\/home\/stc-bank-partners-with-pldt-global-to-secure-digital-payments\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener nofollow\">payments<\/a> to businesses.<\/p>\r\n\r\n\r\n\r\n<p>The platform, PayPal World, will enable interoperability between local payment platforms and PayPal, the firm said in a statement on Wednesday.<\/p>\r\n\r\n\r\n\r\n<p>Its partners for the platform include National Payments Corporation of India &#8211; India&#8217;s payments authority that operates UPI, Brazil&#8217;s Mercado Pago, Tencent Holdings&#8217;\u00a0Tenpay Global and Venmo.<\/p>\r\n\r\n\r\n\r\n<p>UPI dominates digital payments in India, accounting for about 85% of the total volume of retail digital payments, per regulatory data.<\/p>\r\n\r\n\r\n\r\n<p>&#8220;The integration of UPI on PayPal World\u2019s platform will mark a significant step in expanding UPI\u2019s global footprint,&#8221; said Ritesh Shukla, managing director and CEO of NPCI International Payments Limited.<\/p>\r\n\r\n\r\n\r\n<p>India has been\u00a0in talks\u00a0with countries in Africa and South America to help them build a digital payments system using UPI as a blueprint.<\/p>\r\n\r\n\r\n\r\n<p>PayPal&#8217;s platform is expected to go live later this year.
