Bending Spoons\u00a0<a href=\"https:\/\/techcrunch.com\/2024\/07\/31\/bending-spoons-acquires-file-transfer-service-wetransfer\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener\">acquired the Dutch company in July for an undisclosed amount<\/a>.\u00a0<\/p>\r\n\r\n\r\n\r\n<p>The company confirmed the plans for the WeTransfer layoff to TechCrunch. The staff that is being let go will be informed after Bending Spoons goes through local regulations in different countries regarding lay offs. Dutch media reported that\u00a0<a href=\"https:\/\/fd.nl\/tech-en-innovatie\/1530090\/italiaanse-eigenaar-schrapt-tot-driekwart-banen-wetransfer-een-maand-na-overname\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener\">WeTransfer has over 350 employees<\/a>.\u00a0<\/p>\r\n\r\n\r\n\r\n<p>Bending Spoons CEO Luca Ferrari said that typically, the company studies the organization that it is acquiring and determines what is the best vision of the business going forward with an aim to operate it forever.\u00a0<\/p>\r\n\r\n\r\n\r\n<p>\u201cOnce the vision is clear, we try to close the gap between the status quo and the vision as quickly and as fully as we can. Typically, doing so involves making major changes to many areas, including the organization. While we don\u2019t enjoy making painful or unpopular decisions, we\u2019re prepared to do so when we believe it\u2019s the right thing to do to help the business thrive,\u201d he said.\u00a0<\/p>\r\n\r\n\r\n\r\n<p>Ferrari also noted that in WeTransfer\u2019s case, Bending Spoons wanted to have a small and focused team.\u00a0<\/p>\r\n\r\n\r\n\r\n<p>\u201cIn this particular case, the vision we developed is of a smaller, more sharply focused WeTransfer organization, which we believe will be better-positioned to serve WeTransfer\u2019s success with a long-term view,\u201d the CEO said.\u00a0<\/p>\r\n\r\n\r\n\r\n<p>Since its acquisition, WeTransfer has rolled out\u00a0<a href=\"https:\/\/techcrunch.com\/2024\/08\/21\/wetransfers-expiry-dates-havent-gone-away-but-you-can-at-least-extend-them\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener\">a new feature to let users extend the expiry date of a link on the app<\/a>. However, Bending Spoons or WeTransfer hasn\u2019t disclosed their plans about long-term product roadmap.\u00a0<\/p>\r\n\r\n\r\n\r\n<p>The layoffs are not surprising as Bending Spoons regularly cuts the employee count of companies it acquires in order to operate them profitably. In February 2023, it cut 129 employees from\u00a0<a href=\"https:\/\/techcrunch.com\/2023\/02\/27\/bending-spoons-lays-off-129-evernote-staffers\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener\">Evernote\u2019s staff<\/a>. In December 2023, the company let go of the entire workforce of Filmic,\u00a0<a href=\"https:\/\/techcrunch.com\/2023\/12\/04\/bending-spoons-lays-off-entire-staff-of-flimic\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener\">the popular photo and video editing app that it acquired in 2022<\/a>.
