The most consequential decisions being made inside\u00a0organisations\u00a0right now\u00a0aren\u2019t\u00a0about which AI to adopt. They\u2019re about what kind of\u00a0organisation\u00a0you want to become and whether your strategy, your structures, and your people can\u00a0actually get\u00a0you there. That question sits at the intersection of vision and execution.\u00a0It\u2019s\u00a0also where\u00a0I\u2019ve\u00a0spent the better part of my career.\u00a0<\/p>\r\n\r\n\r\n\r\n

International Women\u2019s Day tends to focus on\u00a0who\u00a0gets a seat at the table. What I find more interesting is what you build once\u00a0you\u2019re\u00a0in the room – the decisions that shape direction, the frameworks that make change real, the leadership that\u00a0determines\u00a0whether transformation lands or just gets announced. That work is less visible. It rarely gets\u00a0a headline. And in the age of AI, it has never mattered more.\u00a0<\/p>\r\n\r\n\r\n\r\n

I’ve\u00a0spent over a decade inside fast-moving\u00a0organisations, building businesses from the ground up, shaping strategy for markets we were entering for the first time. What that experience taught me is simple and inconvenient:\u00a0organisations\u00a0are far better at launching transformations than sustaining them. AI is no different.\u00a0<\/p>\r\n\r\n\r\n\r\n

The Gap Nobody Wants to Talk About<\/strong>\u00a0<\/h4>\r\n\r\n\r\n\r\n

Here’s\u00a0what I see happening. A business adopts an AI tool. The implementation\u00a0gets\u00a0celebrated. A few months later, half the team is using it inconsistently, people whose roles changed are quietly disengaged, and the efficiency gains are harder to find in practice. Nobody\u00a0planned for\u00a0this,\u00a0because the plan\u00a0stopped at deployment.\u00a0<\/p>\r\n\r\n\r\n\r\n

The missing ingredient is rarely better technology. The harder work is helping people understand what their role means now, rebuilding performance frameworks that reflect new realities, and creating enough psychological safety that teams can admit when something\u00a0isn’t\u00a0working. That work\u00a0doesn’t\u00a0come with a launch event, nor in AI-written\u00a0LinkedIn\u00a0posts,\u00a0it lives in strategy & execution that goes deep enough to\u00a0actually change\u00a0behaviour.\u00a0<\/p>\r\n\r\n\r\n\r\n

The real risk of this AI moment is that\u00a0organisations\u00a0move so fast chasing efficiency that they hollow out the human judgment and institutional knowledge that\u00a0actually make\u00a0businesses work.\u00a0<\/p>\r\n\r\n\r\n\r\n

What This Moment Asks of Strategic Leaders<\/strong>\u00a0<\/h4>\r\n\r\n\r\n\r\n

Five years ago, a strategic leader was\u00a0largely accountable\u00a0for setting direction and\u00a0optimising\u00a0what already existed. Today, that same leader is being asked to redesign how work happens,\u00a0who does what alongside which tool, and how you hold people accountable in a landscape that keeps shifting.\u00a0That\u2019s\u00a0a fundamentally different job.\u00a0<\/p>\r\n\r\n\r\n\r\n

It requires asking uncomfortable questions before the rollout, not after. It requires understanding enough about AI systems to know what they\u00a0can’t\u00a0do, not just what they can. And it requires sitting in ambiguity with your team rather than projecting false confidence to manage their anxiety.\u00a0<\/p>\r\n\r\n\r\n\r\n

What\u00a0I’d\u00a0Actually Tell Women Entering This Space<\/strong>\u00a0<\/h4>\r\n\r\n\r\n\r\n

Here\u2019s what I\u2019d\u00a0actually say.\u00a0<\/p>\r\n\r\n\r\n\r\n

Stop waiting to feel qualified. The people making the biggest calls in AI and the workforce right now are figuring it out as they go – the difference is they showed up anyway. Your instinct for how\u00a0organisations\u00a0actually\u00a0function, your ability to read a room, your experience of being the person whose concerns were underestimated, in a field still learning what questions to ask, that is a genuine edge.\u00a0<\/p>\r\n\r\n\r\n\r\n

There’s\u00a0something else worth saying, something women often underestimate in themselves. The capacity for empathy, the instinct to ask how people are\u00a0actually experiencing\u00a0a change, to hold the human cost of a decision alongside the business case, is not a soft skill. In an AI-saturated world, it is a strategic one.\u202f\u00a0<\/p>\r\n\r\n\r\n\r\n

The leaders who can hold both\u00a0rigour\u00a0and empathy, who refuse to let speed become an excuse for losing people in the process, are rare.\u00a0Recognise\u00a0that\u00a0in\u00a0yourself.\u00a0It’s\u00a0not incidental to\u00a0the work.\u00a0It’s\u00a0the core of it. And it has never been\u00a0more worth\u00a0doing.\u00a0<\/p>\r\n\r\n\r\n\r\n
